When do you need to update your banking details?

If your banking details are not updated for the SASSA grant, you can face many complications and delays in receiving your grant payments.

If you’ve not updated your banking details, SASSA will attempt to send your payment to the outdated bank account, this will result in payment failure as the transaction will fail.
Even when the transaction doesn’t fail immediately, it will be delayed as SASSA will try to investigate and resolve the issue. This will result in a delay in your payments.
Some banks charge fees for failed transactions and this fee might be deducted from your grant payment.

You may also face difficulties tracking your payment status if your bank details are not correct. If SASSA fails to locate your correct bank account details for a long time, your grant will be forfeited and it will be returned to the government.

Updating your SASSA banking details is an easy process and can be done by following the simple instructions given above. You can easily update your banking details either online, through a phone call, or by going to the SASSA office manually.
